Southern writer drives 40,000 miles to find Chicago
RIMRIC / CHICAGO, IL (12 May, 2008)
M.R.M. Parrott has released “Driving Home: A North American Tour”, a travelogue and autobiography describing his adventures, challenges and lessons during a 40,000-mile, 5-month road trip across the US, Canada and Mexico. The book is to be accompanied by over 2,000 photographs from the trip, at mrmparrott.com. From Columbia SC, Mark Parrott searched North America for the “coolest city”, then relocated to Chicago IL in the Spring of 2007.
Touring over 400 cities, parks and other attractions in 2006-07, Parrott found that “many cities are obviously cool, with strong support of the Arts, happy faces, and a sure vibe”. Parrott’s list of “cool cities” includes Chicago, Washington DC, Mexico City and Toronto, offering “endless cool possibilities”. Mid-sized cities, where “it’s okay to be different”, include Vancouver, Austin, Portland, Nashville and Pittsburgh, and “small-ish”, “liveable and unique” cities include Victoria, Boulder, Playa del Carmen and Savannah.
“Driving Home”, his 12th book following 2003 “Timeless” and 2005 “Dynamism”, is released through Parrott’s small press, rimric, with a new independent books site at rimric.com. “Books are too often luxury items,” Parrott says, “and in a tough economy, fewer of us can afford $30, $20, even $10 a pop, if we like a book or not.” “Driving Home” uses “donation” (but free) pricing. “I plan to release all my titles this way,” Parrott adds, “in response to the changing marketplace for books”.
M.R.M. Parrott’s books include the novel trilogy “Timeless”, a novella, “To Lie Within the Moment”, Philosophy and Science series “Dynamism”, monographs in Philosophy, and chapbooks of poems and short stories.
