M.R.M. Parrott's novella, To Lie Within the Moment, is set on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and tells the delicious story of how a man and two women form a triangle of emotion, creativity, and sexuality, while describing how everything changes for them after a shocking suicide. This philosophical, psychological, poetic, ultra-sexy beach read took M.R.M. Parrott six years to develop, then he wrote it by hand during the Summer of 1997 with very little revision. The style of the book breaks conventions, and compresses literary voices and scenes to weave together elements of narrative, poetry, purple prose, and erotica. Although it was his sixth completed book at age 31 in 1998, the novella was M.R.M. Parrott's first publishing project initializing his imprint, rimric press.

Moment was the happy result of my earliest attempts at novel-writing, taking off from “Daffodils” and “The Painter of Modern Life” (in Another Generation Cometh), but it was also a whole new experiment in short fiction. Essentially, To Lie Within the Moment, is one long prose poem as much as it is a short novel. It's set on the Gulf Coast, with Jim, Mary and Anna, illustrating the meanings of their lives as a way of illustrating mine. Jim is in some ways my ideal self, while his wife Mary represented someone close to me, everything I would rather avoid in women, with Anna as an ideal woman of talent and passion. There are many broken conventions and expectations in this ultra-sexy read, which since 2008 has included a retrospective, “Publishing Within the Moment”.
